Obituary for Sharon L. Venable

Sharon L. Venable, 82, devoted homemaker, born March 19, 1934, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2016. Sharon was a kind, gentle, thoughtful Christian woman that always put others before herself. She was the wife of a United States Air Force pilot for over 60 years. Her dreams in life were to have a family and travel to Africa, which were accomplished. She taught English to Congolese policemen while she and her family lived in Africa. In her later years, Sharon enjoyed traveling the U.S. with her husband, RV-style, gardening, and bird watching. She was the 1952 Enid (Oklahoma) High School Homecoming Queen, and married Thomas Venable, the team waterboy. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas; parents David and Evelyn Hays; and brother Glenn (Norma) Bruer. Survived by daughters Lisa (Michael) Rodriguez of Los Angeles, CA, Carla Venable of Wichita, Dana (Galen) Wixson of Austin, TX, and Jennifer (Mark) Riek of Santa Fe, NM; and granddaughter Alyssa Wixson. The family will hold a private service, per her wishes. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established with Wichita Presbyterian Manor, 4700 W. 13th St., Wichita, KS 67212, and Kansas Humane Society, 3313 N. Hillside, Wichita, KS 67219.
