Obituary for Ronald DePriest

Ronald L. DePriest, 76, left this earth to meet our savior on July 1, 2017. Ron was born in Caruthersville, MO on November 5, 1940 to William and Katheryne DePriest. In 1945 Ron moved to Dexter, MO with his parents and siblings. He graduated from Dexter High school and worked for his father's plumbing business until serving in the USAF from 1961-1965. During his time in the Air Force, Ron was stationed at Misawa Air Force Base, Misawa, Japan and McConnell Air Force Base, Wichita, Kansas. On September 29, 1979 Ron married Pamela Powell in Derby, KS. Ron retired from Maize School District in 2010 after working as head custodian at Maize South High School and retired from the Derby Fire and Rescue Department in 2012 after serving as a volunteer firefighter for 47 years. Some of Ron's volunteer w0ork consisted of Missouri Civil Air Patrol (serving as Cadet Commander during high school), Emergency Medical Technician, CPR-FIRST AID Instructor, and Boy Scouts. Ron was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Derby, where he was an elder of the church and a member of the chancel choir. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Goldie; grandparents; three stepbrothers; a granddaughter, Emma; and two nephews. Ron is survived by his wife, Pamela of Derby; son, Eric (Amy) DePriest; grandsons, Colby and Colt DePriest, all of Pensacola, FL; brother Darryl (Pat) of Fulton, MO; sister, Vivian Burned of Dade City, FL; stepbrother, George Jr (Dianne) Watkins of Bloomfield, MO; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 1-8 with the family to receive friends from 5-7 at Smith Mortuary, Derby. Funeral service will be 10:00 am Thursday, July 6, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church of Derby. Interment will be at El Paso Cemetery, Derby, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Derby, 324 N. Baltimore, Derby, KS 67037.
