Obituary for Doris L. Ahrens

Doris L. Ahrens, 82, was received into the open arms of Jesus on Monday, July 31, 2017. Doris was born in Higden, AR and grew up in Morenci, AZ. She met and married the love of her life, Don, in Long Beach, CA and spent many years together with their growing family in Phoenix, AZ. The family moved to Kansas and Doris spent the last 40 years in Rose Hill, KS, moving eighteen months ago to Shawnee, KS. Doris’ greatest pleasure was family and her most beloved roles, Grandma and Gigi. Over the years Doris enjoyed cooking for family and friends, cross-stitching and reading. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Donald; and parents, Onita Donovan and Mitchell Porter. Doris is survived by her daughters, Debra (David) Smith, Tammy Ahrens, and Sherri (Tim) Wilks; grandchildren, Sarah Smith, Rebekah Smith, Joshua Smith, Alex Wilks, Kylee (Keevin) Stutheit, and Raegan (Zach) Epps; great-grandchildren, Emeri Joann and Annabelle Donn; brothers, Harold Porter and Dewey (Barbara) Porter; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral: 10 am, Monday, August 7, 2017 with visitation 1 hour prior, at Smith Mortuary, Derby 1415 N. Rock Rd. Derby, KS 67037. Interment to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Victory in the Valley, 3755 E. Douglas, Wichita, KS 67218.
