Obituary for Junior Lewis Appleby

Derby-Appleby, Junior Lewis 82, died Thursday, November 16th, 2017. He was born June 5th, 1935 to John and Josephine Appleby. Preceeded in death by his parents; brothers, John, James, Jay, Leroy, Joseph (Ernie); sisters, Jeraldine, JoAnn and Judy. Granddaughter Gianna. Junior met his wife Suzanne when she was in high school, the two married in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, January 5th, 1956. Junior was in the United States Air Force - 20 years, which eventually took him to Puerto Rico, where his family lived for 6+ years. After retiring from the United States Air Force, he worked for Beech Aircraft for 22 years in Experimental. Junior and Suzanne moved to Derby in 1973. Junior was a member of the NCOA, and volunteered with the Welcome Center at the base, which was a perfect job for him, he did not know a stranger! His hobbies were hunting, fishing, bowling, metal detecting, unofficial neighborhood watch, a big and beautiful garden, and he loved enjoying the pool with his family and friends. Junior is survived by his wife, Suzanne; daughters, Jayne Marie (Steve) Jackson, JoAnn (Chris) Spencer, Cheryl Appleby, Melody Appleby Chilcoate; and son, Lewis (Teresa) Appleby; 14 grandchildren, Shayla Glenn, Shauna (Pete), Marker, Abby (Jake) Bell, Curtis (Shiloah) Jackson, Stephen (Breanna) Jackson, Jessica (Robbie) Smith, Jenny Spencer, Christopher (Natalie) Spencer, Shannon Spencer, Leigh (Matt) Rogers, Rickey (Kelsey) Bevier, Anna (Jacob) Walker, Tim Bevier, and Katie Chilcoate. Visitation 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Monday, November 20th, 2017 Family greeting friends from 5-7pm at Smith Mortuary, Derby 1415 North Rock Road Derby, Kansas 67037. Memorial Service 10:00 am, Tuesday, November 21st, 2017 at SouthRock Christian Church Derby, KS 67037. Memorial Contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
