Mildred "Jeanette"  Koleczek (Mellinger)
Mildred, "Jeanette" Koleczek, of Wichita, age 94, passed away Monday, December 18, 2017. Jeanette was born February 18, 1923 in Rockfield, IN to Cloyd Bishop and Emma Faye (Herr) Mellinger. She was married to Adam Koleczek January 3, 1944 in Rockfield. Adam served in the Air Force and was stationed in German and Japan. Jeanette was a "proud military wife" following him on his assignments. After Adam retired in 1961 from McConnell Air Force Base, they continued to reside in Wichita. She worked as a nutrition educator through K-State Research and Extension. She enjoyed judging food at country fairs, made the "best" pie crust and was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church. Jeanette resided at Via Christi Ridge where she took part in activities and enjoyed socializing with other residents. In addition to her husband and parents, Jeanette is preceded in death by four brothers, Guy, Edward, James and Darrell Mellinger. Survivors include her daughter, Linda Nicks (Hugh), of Maize; son, Jonathan Koleczek, of Clearwater; sister, Carol Snider, of West Lafayette, IN; grandchildren, Nikolas Koleczek, Ashley (Nicks) Scheideman (Derek), Chris Nicks (Ashlee); and 3 great-grandchildren. A private graveside service will be held at Lakeview Cemetery; a public memorial service will be held 10 am Friday, January 5, 2018, at Lumen Christi Chapel, Via Christi Village, 3636 N. Ridge Rd. A memorial has been established with the Kansas Humane Society, 3313 N. Hillside, Wichita, KS 67219.
