Obituary for Bob Starr

Bob Starr
Derby - Starr, Robert G. "Bob", 87, born March 17, 1930, passed away January 14, 2018 surrounded by his wife and children. Born to Elmer and Ida (Lyons) Starr and the youngest of five children. Robert married Maggie Scribner in 1955 in Wichita, KS and have two children, Linda and Robby. Bob was born and raised in Derby, Kansas area. He retired in 1992 from the City of Derby after 32 years of service. His work was concentrated in the Parks and Recreation Department as Park Superintendent, due to his love of the outdoors. When he wasn't working for the City, you could find him helping out the local farmers baling hay, cutting wheat, or plowing ground. Always on a tractor! Bob loved the outdoors where he often hunted and fished along side his son. He graduated from Derby High School where he was a member of the first Panther football team, as well as played basketball and ran track. Bob is a member of Masonic Lodge 365. Bob also served in the U.S. Air Force. Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Ida Starr; and 4 siblings. He is survived by his wife, Maggie; children, Linda (Barney) Holleman; Robby Starr (Stacey Sullivan); brother-in-law Jasper Scribner, and his beloved dog, Buddy Boy, along with many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is with the Alzheimer's Association, 1820 E. Douglas Ave. Wichita, KS 67214. Visitation Thursday, January 18th, 1-8pm; family greeting 6-8pm Thursday evening. Funeral Friday, January 19th 2 pm, all at Smith Mortuary- Derby, 1415 N. Rock Rd.
