Lewis W. Carpenter, 79, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2018. He was born April 30, 1938 to Lewis and Opel Carpenter in Ulysses, KS. Lewis retried from the Navy as a Senior Chief Aviation Structural Mechanic after 38 years of service. He then retired from Beechcraft as a Tool License Coordinator after 35+ years. Lewis was a member of the Camping Squares of Kansas, Andover American Legion, and Kiwanas Club. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra; parents; brothers, Roy Carpenter and Edgar Carpenter; step-daughter, Carol Murphy; and grandson, Ryan Griffin. Lewis is survived by his children, Lewis (Robin) Carpenter, Cahnya (Rodney) Parker, and Conraya (Justin Archer) Carpenter; lady friend, Norma Longar; sisters, Marjorie and Norean; grandchildren, Michelle, Kevin, Angela, Zachary, Tavian, Nathan, Kaydan, and Alyssa; and numerous great-grandchildren. Visitation: Thursday, February 15, 2018, from 1 to 8 pm with family present between 5 and 7 pm. Funeral: 1:00 pm, Friday, February 16, 2018, both at Smith Family Mortuary, 1415 N.
