Obituary for Wanda Gould

Wanda M. Gould, 80, retired teacher, died Sunday, March 11, 2018. Wanda was born on a farm near Norwich. Kansas, on April 16, 1937, to Bruce and Betty Laurie. She grew up near Grenola Kansas, graduating from Grenola High School in 1954. She graduated from Chanute Junior college in 1956, and began teaching in Wichita. She graduated from Wichita University (WSU) in 1963.

Wanda met her future husband, Larry, and was married August 18, 1957. In 1965 they moved to Derby Kansas, where they raised their three children.

Wanda taught in elementary schools for 38 years, retiring in 1995. Wanda changed the lives of hundreds of students, with her passion to enrich their lives and their hopes for the future. She served as a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician for 14 years, serving and saving the sick and injured people in Derby.

She was recognized for serving her community in many ways, receiving an “I Make Difference ” recognition, a “Gift of Life Award”, and the “Mayors Award of Excellence”. Her daily deeds of kindness to others will be long remembered. She accepted the Lord, Jesus Christ, as her savior, in 1970, and served him until her passing, while a member of Pleasantview Baptist Church in her hometown of Derby.

She is survived by her husband, Larry; daughters, Debra Brill (Richard) and Laurie Schmidt (Mark); son, Marc Gould (Erin); sisters, Nona Reep and Kathryn Richards; grandchildren, Kayla Loe, Kerri Loe, Melissa Campbell (Grant), Joshua Schmidt (Kim), Sarah Hrabik (David), Brett Gould, and Trent Gould; 8 great-grandchildren.

Viewing: 3-8pm Thursday, Smith Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Road, Derby. Viewing with family present from 10am to 12:00 noon on Friday, March 16, 2018 at Pleasantview Baptist Church, 1335 N Buckner, Derby. Funeral service at 1:30pm Friday, March 16, 2018, at Pleasantview Baptist Church. Memorials are established with the Pleasantview Baptist Church and Youth Horizons, 1601 E. Douglas, Wichita, KS 67211.
