Sophie “Lucy” Rose Rudio Wing, was born on January 4, 1925 in Huntley, Montana, she peacefully passed from this life at age 93 on March 30, 2018 in Derby, Kansas after a short illness. During her lifetime Sophie had quite a list of accomplishments. She was raised on a farm as a Montana cowgirl. She served in the Navy during WW2. She enlisted at age 17 and was discharged, but she immediately reenlisted two days after her 18th birthday. Duties during her time in the Navy included driving supplies and aircraft mechanic. Sophie married the first love of her life Doris “Trip” Triplett 10/29/1943. They were married for seven years until his untimely passing from stomach cancer 12/2 1950 in Hot Springs AR. They had no surviving children from the relationship. As a single woman, Sophie attended the University of Colorado and then moved to Billings Montana where she worked as a secretary for the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Sophie’s mother, Emma, had retired from farm life and was living in Billings. Sophie was introduced to a young man by the name of Gerald Wing, who rented an apartment across the street from Sophie’s mother’s house. They married on Dec 19, 1959. They were married for 51 years. Gerald passed away from pancreatic cancer 12/25/2009 in Mulvane, KS. Early in their marriage Gerald worked for Sohio Chemicals. They lived in Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Ohio. While living in Lima Ohio, Sophie gave birth to a girl they named Paula. In 1966 Gerald and Sophie moved back to Billings, MT. Gerald worked different jobs as an accountant. Sophie was a stay at home mom. She did volunteer work through her church and with hospice. In 1986 Sophie and Gerald moved to Mulvane, KS to be closer to Gerald’s family. Sophie loved to go to garage sales. She liked to take walks in her neighborhood and she loved to sit outside on her porch swing and watch what was going on in the neighborhood. She was very proud of her Navy service and was a supporter of the Women’s Memorial in Washington DC. Sophie leaves behind her daughter, Paula Rhodes; and grandchildren, Rebecca Enriquez and Preston Rhodes, her dearly loved dog Davey, sisters, Emma Schaubel of Miles City MT, Marie Minchin of San Francisco CA, and Dorthy Brook {Jim} of Livingston MT. Her good friends Barbara Carden, Carol Salmon, and Renate Enriquez. She was preceded in death by her parents Philip and Emma Rudio and an older brother Philip Rudio Jr. Cremation and private service for family has taken place.
