Obituary for Nancy Jane Ayers

MULVANE – Ayers, Nancy Jane, 64 went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, May 23, 2018, after battling cancer. Nancy’s devotion to family and her firm belief in our Savior supported her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace. Nancy was born on November 16, 1953. She was an avid sports fan of the KC Royals, KC Chiefs and the K-State Wildcats… GO STATE! Nancy graduated from Emporia State University with her Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education and received her Master's degree at Wichita State University in Curriculum and Instruction. Nancy retired from Cowley County Community College after twenty-six years as a College Algebra teacher and student advisor. She was involved with Phi Theta Kappa academic fraternity and Delta Kappa Gamma, a women’s educators' society. Nancy was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church and held various positions on the School Board, Church Council, Circle of Peace, VBS and Sunday School. Nancy is survived by her husband of 43 years, Max Ayers; children, Lacey (Geoff) Greene of Topeka, KS, Jared (Mary) Ayers of Derby, KS and Mallory (Tyler) Lauer of Manhattan, KS; her grandchildren, Samuel, Archer and Thomas Greene; Emma, Grace and Landon Ayers; siblings, Craig (Karen) Honer, Julie (Don) Pritchard and Mark (Teresa) Honer; many nieces and nephews; and step-mother, Rosemary Honer. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Clara Honer. Nancy is dearly missed by her loved ones, who rejoice in the fact that she is at peace with her Creator. A public family visitation will be held at Smith Family Mortuary in Derby, KS on Monday, May 28th from 4pm - 7pm. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, Derby, KS on Tuesday, May 29th at 10am. A memorial has been established with the LCMS Joint Seminary Fund.
