Obituary for Arlene (Lamborn) McCabe

Arlene (Lamborn) McCabe
Arlene Lamborn McCabe died May 26, 2018 at the Glen Carr House in Derby. She was born in the front bedroom of their family’s farm home near Pittsburg, Kansas, on December 10, 1934, to Harry Clayton Lamborn and Tressie Marie Hughes. Arlene’s twin sister, Alene Lamborn Dugger, was born several minutes before her. After graduation from Pittsburg High School in 1952, she was a typist for the Crawford County Abstract Company, in Pittsburg. She married Jim McCabe on January 3, 1953 and joined him in Memphis, Tennessee where he was stationed in the Navy. She was employed by Service Search & Research in downtown Memphis. After Jim’s transfer to Hutchinson, Kansas, she was employed by the Wolslagel Agency until her first child was born. After a Navy transfer to San Diego in 1955 she was employed by the Security Trust and Savings Bank of San Diego in Pacific Beach, California. After Jim’s discharge from the Navy in 1956 she worked again for the Crawford County Abstract Company in Pittsburg while Jim attended College. After moving to Wichita in 1958, she raised her three children. After her youngest was in high school, she was employed in 1978 by David’s Department Store as an Advertising Secretary. In 1984, she was employed as a secretary for Bussart Realty. In 1986 she was employed by Boeing Airplane Company as a Personnel Clerk. In 1987 she became a Secretary for a Boeing Engineering Stress organization. While in the Stress organization, she had the opportunity to work on Air Force One while it was being modified for Presidential service. She later became the Secretary to the Stress organization’s second level supervisor. She retired from Boeing in January of 1994. After retirement she traveled extensively doing genealogy research and in 2014 co-authored a 900-page genealogy book titled “The Descendants of Sabin Tarvin and Archibald Mann.” She was a member of the Augusta, Kansas Isabella Weldon Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Andover, Kansas. She is survived by her husband, Jim McCabe, of the home; her children, Gregg (Cheryl)McCabe, of Wichita, Melinda (Kerry) Cox, of Derby, John (Robert) McCabe, of Wichita; grandchildren, Jake (Celeste) McCabe, Kelsey (Matt) McClasky, Cameron (Jenn) Cox, Connor Cox; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Dena Alene (Glen) Dugger, Nancy Sue (Richard) Cooper, Diana (Gerald) Lee, Phyllis (Ellick) Morey; brothers, Harry Wayne (Bobbe) Lamborn, Phillip (Kelley) Lamborn, and a sister-in-law, Carolyn Lamborn. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Larry Lamborn. Private services will be held. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with the Alzheimer’s Association, 1820 E Douglas Ave, Wichita, KS 67214.
