Obituary for Anna M. Bahre

Anna Maria (Smith) Bahre, 65, fell into Jesus’ arms on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loved ones, after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer.

Memorial services will be on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at 10:00am at Risen Savior Lutheran Church in Wichita, Kansas with the Rev. Tom Harmon officiating. Visitation with her family will be on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 6-8:00 at Smith Family Mortuaries Derby, KS.

Anna was born on June 4, 1953 in Crete, NE to Hazel (Overholser) and Albert Smith, the youngest of 3 children. On October 2, 1971, she married the love of her life Max Bahre. Their love of motorcycles, which began as a cheap date in high school, grew into a love of touring. Destinations include 44 states including Alaska and all 10 Canadian Providences on their Honda Goldwing. Max and Anna were members of the (GWRRA) Goldwing Club which grew many friendships. On a trip to South Dakota for the birth of her granddaughter Samantha in 2008, Anna purchased her own brand new 2008 Harley Davidson 1200 Sportster Custom she named Penny. She enjoyed the 360˚ view when riding.

Max and Anna were married for 46 years 8 months and 12 days. From this union they had 3 amazing children: Quentin, Leah and David. At the age of 26 she started college, Anna pursued her dream and graduated Cum Laude in 1986 from Wichita State University as a registered nurse. She practiced for 30 years at the Wichita Clinic. Anna’s love and compassion for her patients and co-workers was remarkable.

Passions of Anna’s life included: her grandchildren, quilting and her faith. The pride and joy of Anna’s life were her 5 grandchildren: Tristan, 17, Samantha, 9, Betty, 6, Blake, 6, and Isabel, 5. She was present for all her granddaughter’s births and waited patiently for 2 weeks for Blake! She was the best baby snuggler, patient teacher, loving and proud grandma. Anna had a strong devotion to her faith as a lifelong Lutheran and member of Risen Savior Lutheran Church. She was a master at quilting, mentoring many. Family members were recipients of her talent which spread into charity quilts for the Lutheran World Relief Quilts.

Anna leaves to cherish her memory: Max Bahre, husband, Bel Aire, KS; Quentin and Stacey Bahre, son, Loveland, CO; Leah and Paul Suellentrop, daughter, Lake Bluff, IL; David and Kim Bahre, son, Bel Aire, KS.
