88, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2018.
Velma was born in Chanute Kansas spent her childhood in Independence Ks and Chanute. She graduated from Chanute High School in 1947, where she was a member of the Drum and Bugle Corp. Velma received a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Phillips University in Enid Oklahoma where she met her husband Merle (Al) A. Fry. They were married after she graduated and moved to Wichita Kansas, as Al started his career at Boeing Aircraft Company.
Velma spent her early married life raising their two children. She was a devoted mother and very involved in every aspect of their lives. Once the children were in the upper grades Velma went back to school to receive her Medical Technician training and degree. She worked at Wesley Medical Center in the Lab for 17 years, before retiring.
Velma loved her family; husband (of 65 years), children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved family gatherings. She would use every occasion to bring the family together, in most cases it involved a wonderful meal that she created, as she was a fabulous cook. For years her family would gather weekly for Sunday dinners she prepared.
Velma and Al loved to ballroom dance and they made a great looking dance couple. For years they were members of the Moose club and had several dear friends that also attended dances at the Moose and especially the Friday night dances of which they were regulars.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle A. Fry; parents, Claude Frank and Iva B. Fackler; brother David Lee Fackler.
Velma is survived by her children, James (Karen) Fry and Linda (Bill) Johnson; four grandchildren, Derek (Amanda) Johnson, Christina (Nehmiah) Johnson, Kasie (Ty) Jones, and Michael (Kristi) Fry; two great-grandchildren, Taylor Henry and Avery Jones; sister, Betty Parkins of Chanute; many nieces and nephews.
