Obituary for Roger "Bear" Ehmke

Roger “Bear” Ehmke, 73, passed away Friday, May 12, 2017 at his home. He was born May 8, 1944 to Lyle and Barbara Ehmke in Belle Plaine, KS. Bear was a veteran of the U.S. Army and worked as a mechanical engineer at Boeing. He had a love and talent for crafting bikes and restoring cars. Bear was an avid fan of NASCAR, drag racing, and Royals baseball. He was preceded in death by his parents. Bear is survived by his wife, Donna; daughter, Lynn Collins; daughter-in-law, Dede Pearson; grandchildren, Maranda Westhoff, Charles Schlick, Ben Schlick, and Megan (Dylan) Lyghtle; great-grandchildren, Bentlynn, Malachi, and Lily; brother George; and close cousin, Ron. Visitation: Friday, May 19 from 1 to 8 pm with family present between 5 and 7 pm. Funeral: 1 pm, Saturday, May 20, 2017; all at Smith Mortuary, 501 SE Louis Blvd., Mulvane, KS 67110. Interment to follow at Belle Plaine Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Kansas Humane Society.
